Check whether a client is on Peppol

How to make sure your client is registered on the Peppol network before sending an invoice.

Is my client on Peppol?

Sending an invoice over the Peppol network often fails, or seems not to work. In the vast majority of cases this is not a technical problem with YouInv, but simply that your client is not registered on the Peppol network yet.

To avoid confusion and save time, you can check for yourself whether a company is reachable over Peppol.

Using the official Peppol directory

The Peppol network publishes a public directory where any registered company can be looked up.

  1. Go to the official site: Peppol Directory (directory.peppol.eu)
  2. In the search bar, enter your client's company number (VAT / CBE number) or their company name.
    • Tip: for Belgium, the number is often written with the 0208: prefix (the CBE identifier) followed by the 10-digit number (e.g. 0208:0123456789).
  3. Click Search.

Reading the results

  • If the company appears in the results: click its name. Under "Supported Document Types", check that it does accept the invoicing format (usually Peppol BIS Billing 3.0 or UBL). If it does, you can send your invoices through YouInv without trouble.
  • If the company does not appear: it is not connected to the Peppol network yet (or it has not allowed publication in the directory, which is very rare). In that case Peppol delivery will fail. You will have to send the invoice the classic way, by email as a PDF.

What if my client is not on Peppol?

If your client is not on Peppol, the Peppol delivery option in YouInv will not work. We suggest you:

  1. Send the invoice by email through YouInv.
  2. Contact your client and invite them to connect to the Peppol network (by creating a YouInv account, for instance).
